Q&A: I have symptoms of MS but passed the spinaltap and only had one small scar on brain.?

Question by Kellie: I have symptoms of MS but passed the spinaltap and only had one small scar on brain.?
I also had a good MRI of the spinal chord. I can’t seem to find info on the net about certain chemical imbalances that cause symptoms similar to MS. I tried Web MD and other sites. I just want to get to the bottom and try to figure this out. I would hate to have one of those mystery diagnosis like on the show on discovery health where you don’t have an answer for many years.

Answer by Voelven
There are a number of diseases that can mimic MS from pinched nerves, common viral infections, Lyme’s disease, stress, anxiety to chronic fatigue and strokes, which is why the first step in diagnosing MS is to rule out all other causes.

If your spinal tap got the all clear, it’s unlikely that you have MS, but it’s still possible, so if you get more symptoms, make sure to follow up with your neurologist. What were you checked for before the MRI and spinal tap, and what does your doctor and neurologist say?

This is your brain on an iPhone

Posted by admin Comments (3)

This is your brain. This is your brain on an iPhone. Researchers at the University of Calgary have written a software application for the new iPhone 3G, allowing doctors to remotely receive medical images on their iPhones and to manipulate the images in three dimensions. The project is jointly funded by the Government of Alberta through iCORE (Informatics Circle of Research Excellence), Calgary Scientific Inc. and the University of Calgary. iCORE is providing 0000 over five years. Calgary Scientific Inc is contributing more than million in funding and in-kind resources, while the University of Calgary is contributing 5000 to the project. This research focuses on developing new methods to identify and extract vital diagnostic information from medical images produced by MRI and CAT scans, said Dr. Ross Mitchell, newly appointed iCORE/ Calgary Scientific Inc. Industry Chair in Medical Imaging Informatics at the University of Calgary. This new funding will help us rapidly and reliably identify brain regions at risk during acute stroke, find new methods to predict how a brain tumor will respond to therapy, and better gauge the effectiveness of new Multiple Sclerosis treatments. By bringing the outcomes of his research to the marketplace, Dr. Mitchells work will enhance disease diagnosis in this province and across the globe, said Doug Horner, Minister of Advanced Education and Technology. Dr. Mitchells work also furthers our effort to create the right environment for
